Year 5 Market

Last week we had our Year 5 Market. Our group made $440.85. It was lots of fun!

During the market I met Paula Mahoney, James Macready Bryan and James’ Mum. All of Year 5 had to write a letter to someone to come to our market. I wrote to Paula and Leila wrote to James and his Mum. All of them came and it was an amazing experience.

There were lots of stalls and everyone enjoyed themselves. Almost everyone sold out of their products. During lunch we had some tables set up outside Metcalfe Hall and each group could sell their leftover products.

During the day many Positive Learner Attributes were used. Our group mainly used Communication, Collaboration, Connectedness and Reflection. We used Communication all throughout the day. We had to Collaborate when people from our group wanted to have a break. We showed Connectedness by all working together as a team. At the end of the day we had to Reflect on what went well and what we would improve.

My advice to the Year 4’s would be to make sure you spread your time evenly over all of your products, don’t focus mainly on one product. Another bit of advice I would give to the Year 4’s would be to make sure your ideas are realistic with the money and time you have.

If I could redo the market I would make sure not to put as much stock out for each year level and make people pay the real price instead of just half of the price.

Some challenges we faced were:

  • The Year 6’s didn’t buy much from our stall, only a couple bought something. They mainly played our game
  • Some of our stress balls popped
  • There wasn’t much stock left when the Year 6’s came to the market

Carey Celebrates Literature

Two weeks ago was CCL. We had an author come to visit us. Our author was Mark Wilson. There was also a lunch time carnival when we got to perform our poems. There were lots of activities at the carnival. There was also a cupcake afternoon tea and Leigh Hobbs talk. I introduced Leigh Hobbs. We made our own blackout poetry.

My favourite activity at the carnival was badge making because you could make whatever kind of badge you wanted. The badges were also very quick to be made. I got an Old Tom badge. I didn’t get to do many activities because I was part of the CCL committee. Our group ran the Treasure Hunt.

I learnt lots of things from Mark Wilson. Something interesting I learnt was that Mark Wilson has written seventeen books in nine different languages. Mark Wilson also gets paid $250 for every black and white drawing. He also gets $1000 for every front cover.

At the Leigh Hobbs afternoon tea we learnt how to draw Mr Chicken, Old Tom and Horrible Harriet. When he explained how to draw them he would sing it and everyone would do the same. I had to introduce Leigh Hobbs.

What did you learn from Mark Wilson?

Year Five Market

Only six days until the market! Last week we made print ads to put up around the school. Every group was allowed to put up two posters.

We have been learning different forms of persuasive writing. There are many forms of persuasive writing such as:

  • A normal persuasive text
  • A persuasive letter
  • A print ad
  • A video ad

What type of persuasive writing do you think is the best? Why?
